Can Ole Miss actually win the SEC Tournament? Yes, I think they can.
Am I feeding into my own delusion right now? Absolutely. The Rebels just beat the Florida Gators 3-1, but that scoreline doesn’t tell the full story. The pitching staff absolutely dominated the Gators. To give a bit of perspective to that dominance, Ole Miss only had three pitchers take the mound – something that I haven’t seen often this season.
Hunter Elliot took the mound to start the game and to say he was stellar would probably still be an understatement. Elliot went 5.1 innings, no earned runs, eight strikeouts and only one walk. The one run that the Gators got was unearned, meaning that all three pitchers had no earned runs.
There were no home runs for Ole Miss against Florida, but they had a ton of extra base hits. Judd Uttermark, Issac Humphrey and Ryan Moerman were the three Rebels to make it to home plate, each having a decent outing of their own.
Now let’s look to the future. The Rebels’ next game is against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Razorbacks have had two byes, so they might be a little rusty. Ole Miss is hot right now and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Here’s my only worry; I don’t know if the pitching staff can keep this up. If they can, my goodness, Ole Miss will be one of the scariest teams in the country.
I’ll end with this, as “The Captain” Tim Elko once said, “Don’t let the Rebs get hot”.
