A little note before we begin; I might crash out later on in this so just beware of that.
Ole Miss came so close yet so far as they hosted a regional in what was honestly one of the craziest environments I’ve ever experienced. The Rebels showed so much fight considering how their weekend started.
Losing to Murray State for their first game really surprised me. The decision to not pitch Hunter Elliot the first game was undoubtedly the wrong choice. If Elliot would have started game one, I truly believe that the Rebels would have cruised past the Racers.
Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky went like they should have, with Ole Miss’ bats being very hot. Then game two against Murray State came and my goodness. It was just pure and utter domination. The team hit not one, not two but three home runs in a row at a point, signaling the pure talent gap that was apparent.
Then the final game happened. This game was a coaching disaster early on for the Rebels. Walker Hooks was kept in the game for way too long. He gave up five runs and didn’t show any sign of getting better.
Look, it wasn’t just on Hooks as the infield just couldn’t field a play. It felt like everytime a ball was hit to first base, Will Furniss forgot how to play baseball.
To give credit to Murray State, they scored enough runs to be able to hold off the Rebels. Sadly, Ole Miss’ season has come to an end, but it wasn’t a disappointing one, as the Rebels were projected to finish 15th in the SEC at the beginning of the season.
