Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian experienced an awkward moment at SEC Media Days on Tuesday when an audio mishap led to him being introduced with Texas A&M’s “Aggie War Hymn” — the fight song of Texas’ fiercest rival — instead of the Longhorns’ “Texas Fight.”

Sarkisian, who was next to take the podium in Atlanta, entered the stage as the initial notes of the Aggies’ anthem played over the loudspeakers, prompting a mix of surprise and amusement among the media and college football fans following the event. The rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M, which resumed last season after a long hiatus, is among the most heated in college football, making the song choice an especially notable blunder.

The Texas coach maintained his composure and did not react to the song, moving straight into his opening remarks. Social media, however, quickly picked up on the mistake, with commentary ranging from jokes about the event's technical crew to playful rivalry banter between the schools’ fanbases.

For the day’s televised session, each SEC coach was introduced to their team’s fight song, heightening the mishap as Sarkisian walked out to the Aggie tune broadcast live. While some Longhorns backers hoped for a witty response from Sarkisian, he let the moment pass without comment and focused on his team’s prospects for the upcoming season.

The SEC did not immediately comment on how the error occurred.
