In all honesty, this has been a pretty good season for Ole Miss baseball.
Look, at the beginning of the season, the Rebels were picked to finish last by almost every single outlet that did rankings predictions. Ole Miss is currently ranked in the top 25, with some pretty impressive wins to boot. Their best win is their series win over Vanderbilt, one of the top teams in the country.
While there have been some bumpy times, as is tradition with Ole Miss, from where they were projected to finish, this has been a great year for the Rebels. There are still two series left against Mississippi State and Oklahoma, respectively. If Ole Miss wins one of those series, they put themselves in a great spot for the SEC Tournament and Omaha.
While I certainly have feelings about the current state of Ole Miss baseball, I can appreciate the product that has clearly taken the field this season. Are there flaws with Ole Miss this season? Absolutely. The main problem that I have seen this season is just overall inconsistency. There are times when our hitters are hitting lights out and then turn around and look as if they were out partying all night. Am I overreacting? Yes.
The bigger issue to me is Mike Bianco’s inability to pull the trigger when it comes to making lineup changes. He makes some here and there and I applaud him for it, but he will leave a hitter in when they are really struggling when we have other players who could be getting at-bats. I understand that’s how baseball works, but it’s slightly infuriating at times.
All in all, I have enjoyed this season, no matter the outcome, simply because we outperformed everyone's expectations entering the season.
