South Carolina’s spring football game is tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th at 7:00 PM ET. The Gamecocks have a big upcoming season after having a disappointing season a year ago. This is a team with a lot of question marks going into the 2024 season.

They're looking for a new starting quarterback, playmakers at receiver, offensive line issues, and new faces on defense. It is almost always hard to tell what to take from a spring game. Spring games are important but a lot of times offenses are not showing a whole lot and defenses can not hit the quarterback and which leads to not knowing how good the team will be.

In South Carolina’s spring game, we need to see a couple of things that are vital for their success in this upcoming season. The number one thing we need to see is how the offensive line plays and they can give the quarterbacks time and the running backs holes to run through. South Carolina has struggled for years now at offensive line and with a new starting quarterback they need to play better this season. South Carolina does have some new weapons at running back with Rocket Sanders coming in from Arkansas but he needs space to be able to show his talent.

We should also be looking at quarterback Lanorris Sellers and he can throw the football accurately and efficiently. He has great running ability and is a big quarterback but the question is can he throw the football accurately consistently? Also, be on the lookout for Auburn transfer quarterback Robby Ashford who is an older guy who will be competing for the starting job.

One of the biggest question marks is the receivers. The receivers will be the number one thing to look at in the spring game. It will be very interesting to see the receivers with the Gamecocks losing star receiver Xavier Legette. South Carolina has a lot of new faces at receiver and Gamecock fans should look for freshman receiver Mazeo Bennet, Louisville receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, and Coastal Carolina receiver Jared Brown.

Another thing that struggled at times last season was the defense. The Gamecocks have a lot of new faces on defense as well with new linebackers Bangally Kamara from Pittsburgh and Demetrius Knight from Charlotte. A guy to look for is transfer defensive end Kyle Kennard from Georgia Tech. He could be a big playmaker for South Carolina this season.

The Gamecocks have a lot to look for in this spring game but everything that is shown in the spring game should be taken with a grain of salt because it is a spring game. This is a big year for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks so this spring game is big for them to show how they have improved from last season.
